Florida Rail Pass
Amtrak has a great train travel deal for residents of Florida. It’s called the Florida Rail Pass. It’s pretty nice if you live in Florida and want to do some train traveling.
The Florida Rail Pass is $249 and it’s good for one full year of unlimited travel throughout Florida. Here’s a nice feature: it has no blackout dates. No reservations needed either.
To get the Florida Rail Pass, you must show a valid Florida driver’s license or Florida state ID card. If you have neither, a voter registration card with photo ID will work too. Sorry non-Floridians, the Florida Rail Pass isn’t for you.
As you might expect, you can’t transfer the Florida Rail Pass to anyone else and you must be able to show ID at anytime during your travel.
Amtrak calls the Florida Rail Pass a “flash pass.” Rather than making reservations or ordering tickets, you simply show the pass and your ID to the conductor when you board. It’s that simple.
There is one caveat. Yes, you can walk up and board the train. However, you’re not guaranteed a seat. If the seats are full, you can ride, but you won’t have a seat. The Florida Rail Pass is for Coach Class travel. In other words, people who bought tickets for that specific train ride come first.
Still, $249 isn’t much these days. The Florida Rail Pass is good for one year. Use it as much as you want. It’s a small price to pay for the freedom to pickup and go whenever you want. Upgrading to Business Class or Sleeping Car is an option with your pass too.
